Often an issue is caused by a minor mis-loading of the page. The best way to fix this is to refresh the page. This can be done by pressing refresh or reload button on your browser or pressing <ctrl>-r or <f5>.
Sometimes that isn’t quiet enough so try <ctrl><shift>-r this combination tell the browser to reload the page by downloading all of the content again.
Online Viewer Tips
Online Viewers at Offices
- Depending on the internet bandwidth available, you may experience streaming problems when multiple people are watching the webcast live from the same office, at different workstations
- Whenever possible, you should always watch the webcast together from one feed (that is, watch from the same computer)
All Online Viewers
- Close Microsoft Outlook and all other computer applications
- Do not browse the internet or do other activity on your computer
- Review the Test Video
- If the streaming quality is poor, change the bandwidth option to Low Bandwidth; you will notice slightly lower video quality (compared to high bandwidth), but the audio should be of good quality.
***The low bandwidth option is not available for all webcasts.
Can’t find the Webcast
Check that you have the correct URL. For webcasts that need to be logged in check to see that you have the correct user name and password.
Try a different browser.
Sometimes if you are behind a firewall the webcast will be blocked. Ask your local system administrator, they may be able to allow the webcast. Try the URL on a phone that isn’t on the local network.
The volume controls while watching a webcast are generally located in two areas: in the video window of the webcast and your computer’s or devices audio controls.
- On Windows machines for all videos you can use the keyboard arrow up and arrow down buttons to increase or decrease the volume. Pressing the down arrow a number of times will mute the audio.
- For other devices like phones or tablets you can use the volume increase and decrease button. Figure 1 or 2
There are a variety of causes for not having volume during a webcast.
- Check that the volume on the video is not down or muted. You may need to unmute the video first. See Figure 1 or 2
- Your speakers are turned down or are off.
- The volume on your computer or device is turned down or muted. See Volume Control
- If you have recently added an HDMI connected device, monitor or projector, it may be receiving the sound. Check to see what your sound output device is.
Pausing and Unpausing a video
- For computers you can use <SPACE> – the space bar can pause and unpause a video.
- For tablets and phones tap the video to get the control menu then tap the play or pause button.
Viewing Full Screen
- In Windows using the keyboard the f key will make a video full screen. pressing f again will return you to the regular page.
- In Windows with a mouse you can use the expanding and contracting arrows at the lower right corner of the video. Figures 3, 4 or 5
- On a tablet or phone you can tap the video to see the controls and tap the expanding arrows in the lower right hand side. Figure 3 or 5. To return to a window tap on the video and then press the X. This usually also pauses the video
*** Note that when a video is streaming the bandwidth between the site and your computer may not be very good. Making a low bandwidth video full screen can make it look grainy.
